Well, well, saying that not know much about gardening, I start with grape vine straight away. It is not actually what you expect to find here.

In Turkish cusine, we have a receipe with grape vine leaves. After I moved to England, I find it difficult to find nice and fresh grape vine leaves for cooking. You can get some from Tesco, or various ethinic shops. However, the quality is not so good. Either, it is so chewy or does not taste so great. Seeing some of neighbours grow some grape vine in their garden, I start to wonder why we can not grow it either. We leave in South-East of England. We get reasonable sun if it is a good summer. It gave us a hope to grow our on grape vine. Soil in the garden is neutral, is not chalky like in some part of the south of the country.

However, it was not easy to find the right grape vine for using leaves for cooking. I looked on the Internet and ask various people to find the right grape wine. It was not so successful. In the meantime, Anne and Ken were getting ready for their cravan holiday in France. They returned back with a suprise. They brought me two different type of grape vines and we planted one of them in our garden. The type we have is Vigne Muscat de Hambourg, and it produces red grapes. We have not seen any grapes yet, but leaves are slowly coming up. We planted it in the most sunny corner of our garden and also it is near the house. So, it can easily climb up when it grows bigger.

I have not done any test cooking yet. It does not have enough leaves, but the taste of the leave seems all right. I hope it will be right type of grape vine and all the effort we have done will not be just for the grapes.

Maybe, next thing we should try to learn how to make vino :-) Take one step further!
